Salt Pond Breakers vs Botanical Gardens Rangers Match VPL – 25th Match VPL 5

April 22, 2023

Breakers won the toss and chose to bowl.

Breakers got off to a dream start as the dangerous opening partnership was broken, when Ryan John removed Keron Cottoy off the 2nd legitimate delivery of the match. Fortune quickly went the way of the Rangers as Andre Fletcher and Ravendra Persaud were both dismissed off no balls and made them pay as Breakers finished the powerplay on 58/2. Ravendra Persaud made 28 from 11 deliveries, hitting 2 fours and 3 sixes.

While Jomel Warrican had a good spell of 2/16 from his 2 overs, it didn’t stop the carnage as Rangers got to 135/7 from their 10 overs. Andre Fletcher made 35 from 27 deliveries and they had excellent support from Roshon Primus (25 from 10) and Kenneth Dember (20 not out from 7).

Breakers immediately stuttered in the chase as Roshon Primus removed Kadeem Alleyne and Kadir Nedd with back to back deliveries in the first over. Breakers were reduced to 12/3 when Persaud accounted for Ryan John’s wicket and the writing started to appear on the wall for the Breakers.

There was some hope for Breakers when Ricarvo Williams was at the crease as he was striking the ball gorgeously, already hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes but Keron Cottoy surprised him with a faster shorter delivery and Williams tried to evade it but couldn’t get the bat out the way and lobbed a catch to the running in long off fielder. The game was done and dusted at that point and Breakers could only stutter to 106 all out, with Rangers winning by 29 runs and securing their spot for Qualifier 2.

Keron Cottoy had 4/21 as he toyed with Breakers batsman, tossing the ball fuller and wider enticing the big aggressive hits. Roshon Primus had 3/14 and really did the early damage that ensured there was no way back for the Breakers after his first over with the new ball.

Botanical Gardens Rangers 135/7 (10 overs)
Salt Pond Breakers 106 all out (9.2 overs)
