Dark View Explorers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers – 23rd Match VPL 5
Explorers won the toss and chose to bowl.
Gidron Pope started things off for Strikers by pulling Kenson Dalzell for four in the first over. Pope swung Hoyte, during the 2nd over, down to mid wicket for a four and six then crashed a shorter length delivery outside off over wide long off for six. Pope hit Hoyte for another four and six but was removed off the last delivery of the powerplay, sending a catch straight into the hands of Chelson Stowe at long on. Strikers finished the powerplay on 41/1 with Pope making 33 from 16 deliveries.
Strikers got to 78/1 after 7 overs, with Sealroy Williams and Salvan Browne keeping the scoring rate up, picking up boundaries in every over outside the powerplay. They picked up 55 runs from the final 3 overs to reach 133/1. Sealroy Williams was promoted up the order and took charge of the innings before Salvan Browne unleashed his destructive self at the back end of the innings. They both put on 92 runs in 36 deliveries. Salvan Browne finished unbeaten on 51 from 28 deliveries, hitting 3 fours and 5 sixes while Sealroy Williams’ unbeaten 37 came from 16 deliveries and had 2 fours and 3 sixes. Kenson Dalzell didn’t take a wicket, but his two overs went for 12 runs, very economical in the match circumstances.
Ray Jordan bowled the new ball and was hit for back to back fours by Descarte, down to third man and long on. Jordan dismissed the dangerous Navin Stewart during the 3rd over. Descarte got two more boundaries off Jordan’s bowling, cheekily down to third man. Kevin Abraham bowled Descarte and completed his spell, taking 1/11 from 2 overs to be in contention for the tournament’s Mr Economical.
Strikers kept things tight in the middle overs and kept Explorers to 64/5 after 8 overs. Explorers lower order dominated the last two overs as they took 48 runs. Chelson Stowe hit 3 sixes off the 9th over, two of which were massive hits. Tilron Harry took advantage of the final over bowled by Jerome Jones, the leading wicket taker. He took 4 sixes from the over, prompting a call for a different ball twice. Strikers won the match by 21 runs, with Jones taking 2/35 to continue leading the bowling charts.
