Divers got off to a super start, as they got 25 runs from the first over bowled by Kesrick Williams, as the innings was started with 5 wides then a no ball, which saw the free hit being a top edge for six off Chadwick Walton’s bat. Walton also struck 3 fours in the over.
Ryshon Williams was putting on a hitting exhibition in the 3rd over, hitting 4 sixes off the bowling of Ravendra Persaud. He knelt and swung his first six over square leg then carried the remaining three down the ground, wielding the long handle. Divers finished the powerplay on 66/0. Despite the carnage, Kenneth Dember bowled his two overs for 17 runs else things could have been much worse for Rangers.
Keron Cottoy and Atticus Browne pulled things back slightly during the 5th and 6th over but the massacre continued as 87 runs came from the last 4 overs, 54 of those runs coming from the last 2 overs. Divers finished their innings on 170/3, the highest ever team score in VPL Ryshon Williams scored his first VPL half century, scoring 63 from 24 deliveries, which contained 2 fours and 7 sixes. Chadwick Walton remained unbeaten on 63 from 30 deliveries, hitting 5 fours and 5 sixes. Bennitton Stapleton, a known hitter of spin bowling, hit 3 sixes on the trot to score 18 from 4 deliveries.
Keron Cottoy started the chase in positive fashion, seeing off the first delivery then taking the attack to Asif Hooper as he hit three consecutive fours and then finished off the over with two maximums. Andre Fletcher joined the party and bludgeoned 3 sixes and 1 four off Richie Richards but Richards had him stumped off the last delivery of the over.
The game was quickly back in the favour of the Divers as Wesrick Strough removed Primus and Persaud in consecutive deliveries as Rangers finished the powerplay at 62/3. Rangers were quickly reduced to 66/6 during the 6th over to kill their chances of a finish in the top two spot. Rangers had a late surge by Kenneth Dember, as he remained unbeaten on 48 from 19 deliveries, hitting 6 sixes. Romario Bibby was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 wickets for five runs.
