Match Preview: Botanical Gardens Rangers vs Salt Pond Breakers – 20th Match VPL 5
Breakers win against Explorers meant that the playoff teams have been decided. Therefore, that’s one burden off everyone’s back. The next hurdle is to get things right heading into the playoffs.
Breakers tried a new upcoming combination and it worked, as they chased down a decent target with deliveries too spare and not losing a wicket. The return to form by Kadeem Alleyne is a major boost for Breakers, especially in the absence of Sunil Ambris, as the batsmen will have to pull their weight now that playoffs is approaching. Ryan John and Kadir Nedd have been off the boil since the earlier parts of the tournament. Ricavo Williams still haven’t hit his straps and they may look to give him a go up the order this match to see if he can regain some form. While the left arm spin twin of Warrican and Fredericks worked in the earlier parts of the tournament, they have come under the gun in recent matches. Jeremy Layne has bowled well in the past few games and have added another string in the bowling arsenal for Breakers.
Rangers still have some kinks to work out. Apart from Fletcher, Cottoy and Primus, the other batters haven’t got into their groove as yet. These remaining matches in the preliminary stages maybe a chance to promote some of the batsmen to get their feet going heading into the playoffs. The bowling is in disarray for the Rangers, with only Dember seeming to be in good rhythm – everyone else has been hit and miss in their most recent matches. They are carrying a few niggles and how they manage their personnel will be crucial. However, Rangers back themselves to score big totals and to chase them down as they have a lot of fire power.
