Dark View Explorers vs Salt Pond Breakers Match Report – 18th Match VPL 5
Explorers won the toss and chose to bat.
Romano Pierre got the innings on the way when we pushed a back of a length delivery past backward point down to the vacant third man boundary for four. Pierre cashed in again, carving a shortish length through the off side for another boundary. Breakers put down Navin Stewart in the 2nd over, off the bowling of Fredericks. Fredericks was then hit down the ground for six, to rub salt into the wounds.
Alleyne removed Romano Pierre, who was caught brilliantly by Rasheed Fredericks. The last over of the powerplay was huge, conceding 30 runs, with eight of those being wides. Descarte in particular was punishing, hitting 2 sixes and 1 four in the over to send Explorers marching at 54/0.
Extras were haunting Breakers, as Johnson bowled three wides and two no balls during the 6th over. Descarte drove Johnson over long off for maximums but was dismissed, caught at cow corner, attempting a third hit. Shaman Hooper was dismissed in similar fashion to Descarte and Johnson got wickets off consecutive deliveries. Explorers bad luck continued as Tilron Harry was run out without facing a delivery and Breakers had a team hat trick. There was another run out, a carbon copy of the previous one as Kadir Nedd made another direct hit to run out Denson Hoyte. Explorers were reduced to 85/5 after 7 overs with the momentum back to Breakers.
Explorers struggled badly in the middle phase, only making 40 runs from overs 5 to 9. Luckily, they took 18 runs from the final over to still get a respectable total of 112/5. Shadrack Descarte top scored with 41 from 13 deliveries, hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes. Delorn Johnson took 2/18 from a solitary over while Ryan John who didn’t pick a wicket, was economical with 13 runs from his 2 overs.
Breakers changed things up in the chase, using a different opening pair, with Seon Sween promoted up the order. He flicked his first delivery for four. Alleyne took a liking to Sealron Williams during the 2nd over and took 3 fours from the over. Alleyne swung Dalzell for six over mid wicket and Sween drove inside out over covers to pick up a boundary during the 3rd over. Breakers finished the powerplay on 52/0, requiring 61 runs from 36 deliveries.
Kadeem Alleyne played the shot of the day during the 6th over, driving speedster Darius Martin over cover for maximum. Alleyne continued the carnage and took 22 runs from the 8th over bowled by Descarte. In the end, Breakers won the game by 10 wickets with 9 deliveries to spare and confirming their spot in the playoffs.
Kadeem Alleyne was spectacular with the bat and remained unbeaten on 82 from 33 deliveries, hitting 7 fours and 5 sixes. Seon Sween was not out also, for 29 from 19 deliveries, which contained 2 fours and 2 sixes.
