Match Preview: Botanical Gardens Rangers vs Salt Pond Breakers – 11th Match VPL 5
Salt Pond Breakers are the only unbeaten team of the tournament so far. They have not won a game handsomely as yet, which shows they are just good at taking advantage of whatever situation comes their way. While only Kadir Nedd has made a half century so far, the likes of Ryan John, Kadeem Alleyne, Ricavo Williams, Seon Sween and Delorn Johnson has all looked destructive. They have a good spin twin in Jomel Warrican and Rasheed Fredericks to handle the powerplay and middle overs. Ryan John is probably bowling his best ever in VPL and proving to be one of the top all rounders of the tournament. Sunil Ambris will be departing soon for a solitary first class match, so they’ll love for him to give them some runs before he goes and bag another win or two while they’re at it.
Rangers look solid on paper but they have already lost two of their three games and they will be feeling some pressure. Champion teams find ways of bouncing back and Rangers will be out to prove that they are a champion side. No one has really set the batting on fire as yet but they do have some crazy hitters. They’re a team that usually goes well in the powerplay but lose it in the middle phases. They tend to be controlled by the spinners so they need to find a way to counter that. The likes of Keron Cottoy, Tijourn Pope and Atticus Browne with the bat may have a big part to play in this match – the match ups against Jomel Warrican and Rasheed Fredericks may well decide this game.
