April 11, 2023

Breakers won the toss and chose to bat.

Breakers last Nedd early via the run out route. Kadeem Alleyne marched in and creamed his first two deliveries for four off the bowling of Greaves. Breakers took two boundaries from the 2nd over bowled by Dalzell. Greaves was struck for four by Alleyne then whacked over mid wicket by Ambris for six. Greaves had the last laugh as he had Ambris holding out to long on the next delivery. Dalzell dented Breakers innings further as he took the wicket of Alleyne and Layne in back to back deliveries to sink Breakers to 36/4 at the end of the powerplay.

Ryan John drove straight for six then played a Gordon Greenidge, leg in the air, pull shot for six over mid wicket to push Breakers to 49/4 after 5 overs. Ryan John was in vintage calypso Cricket mode as he whipped one off the legs over mid wicket for six to push Breakers to 60/4 from 6 overs. Seon Sween joined the party and hit 2 sixes through the off side then pumped another over mid wicket to take 20 runs from the 7th over.

The runs continued to flow as Ryan John pulled a long hop for six then drove over wide long off for another maximum to push Breakers to 96/4 after 8 overs. John and Sween pushed Breakers to 119/5. John made 39 from 19 deliveries, hitting 5 sixes while Seon Sween remained unbeaten on 37 from 18 deliveries, hitting 1 four and 4 sixes. Kenson Dalzell was the top bowler for Explorers, taking 2/14 from his quota.

Explorers didn’t start well as they lost captain Pierre in the first over. Greaves took two fours from the 2nd over and Descarte got into the action by hitting 3 fours and 1 six to push Explorers to 40/1 at the end of the powerplay. While it was a decent start, they were behind the asking rate. Explorers struggled along to 53/1 after 6 overs, requiring a further 67 runs from 24 deliveries, a herculean task.

Shadrack Descarte on debut gave Explorers some hope as he made a whirlwind 59 from 30 deliveries that comprised of 4 fours and 5 sixes – scoring all around the ground. He brought the equation down to 25 runs from the final over but it was too daunting as Breakers won by 7 runs. Deron Greaves remained not out on 33 from 25, hitting 3 fours and 1 six.
