Match Preview: Salt Pond Breakers vs Dark View Explorers – 3rd Match VPL 5
Dark View Explorers has had good success in VPL – their only poor season on record was during the 1st edition. While Breakers won their first match, they had a lot of concern in the batting department and they will no doubt be trying to right that wrong.
Explorers was captained in the previous four editions by Lindon James – this is their first match under new captain Romano Pierre who will be looking to impress. He has a never say never die attitude, as is evident by his performance in the past two seasons compared to his first two seasons as a batsman. Explorers will be missing some key players for this match but they are not to be under estimated. Pierre, Greaves, Walker, along with the all round fire power of Descarte, Harry and Stowe can still pummel attacks. Descarte has recently emerged as one of the finest all rounders in the Windward Islands and will be looking to make a mark in this tournament with his batting and bowling. With Martin out of this match, their bowling maybe lacking in the pace bowling department. They historically have fared well with the spin of Greaves, Hooper and especially Sealron Williams who is usually their trump card with the ball.
Breakers bowling did well in their first match but apart from Nedd, the batting was a struggle and that’s the area they will have to improve on if they want to make it two from two. Breakers have the quality in their batting to easily surpass 100 runs – Ambris, Alleyne and John are yet to fire and if any of them do, it will be a spectacle for the fans. For the bowling, their main concern was the amount of extras they gifted – an area that could potentially cost you a game!
Ricavo Williams seems unlikely to arrive for this match, while Darius Martin, Rickford Walker and Shaman Hooper will miss out for Explorers.
Dark View Explorers: L L L
Salt Pond Breakers: W L W
The weather forecast for this match is set to better than on day 1 – little chance of rain anticipated.
The pitch is decent for batting but the odd ball is spinning because of some bare patches on the pitch. There is some occasional steep bounce for the seamers so it is a pitch that has every one interested. Par score seems to be 100 on this wicket.
