Fort Charlotte Strikers vs Botanical Gardens Rangers Match Report – 24th Match VPL 4
Rangers won the toss and bowling.
Larry Edwards was miserly, bowling the first over of the match that only had a single taken off it. Hackshaw pulled Kimali Williams for a six during the 2nd over but Kimali Williams had him out the next delivery. Larry Edwards completed his quota of overs for only 4 runs, restricting Strikers to 13/1 after 3 overs. Razine Browne bowled the final over of the powerplay and was launched over long off by Bascombe for a maximum. He had his revenge when he had Bascombe caught at mid off to have Strikers struggling at 22/2 at the end of the powerplay.
Although Strikers managed to hit a couple maximums, they lost wickets regularly after the powerplay, being reduced to 45/5 after 7 overs. Strikers finished their innings on 77/6 with Joshua James top scoring with 30 not out from 15 deliveries – his innings consisted of 3 fours and 2 sixes. It was an otherwise sorry looking batting card for the Strikers.
Rangers needed to overhaul their target in 8.3 overs to guarantee a spot in the top two. With that in mind, Rangers opened the innings with Andre Fletcher and Keron Cottoy. Strikers would have been proud of their bowling in the powerplay, which was executed by Rasheed Fredericks and Richie Richards. They kept Rangers to 26/1 after 4 overs, with Richie Richards bowling Andre Fletcher with a slow flighted delivery that turned appreciably.
Rangers got two big overs, taking 30 runs combined from the 5th and 6th over. Wayne Harper was in good nick, hitting beautifully over cover and long off for maximums. After 6 overs, Rangers were 56/2 and required 22 runs from 15 deliveries to guarantee their spot in the top two. Wayne Harper ensured the qualification in the top two as he played a wonderful knock of 31 not out from 15 deliveries hitting 1 four and 3 sixes, to help Rangers to finish the game in 8.2 overs.
