Salt Pond Breakers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers Match Report – 19th Match VPL 4

March 28, 2022

Breakers won the toss and chose to bat.

Breakers had a shocking start as Kadir Nedd looked to hit out the ground off the first legal delivery bowled by Rasheed Fredericks but could only sky it for mid off to take an easy catch. Fredericks bowled a beautiful turning delivery that took the edge of Alleyne’s bat and was beautifully caught by wicket keeper Thurton to have Breakers at 2/2. Rickford Walker was run out during the 2nd over and Atticus Browne was given a life after charging down the track to Richie Richards and the stumping chance was missed. Strikers had Breakers 14/3 but allowed runs to flow easily on a track that was aiding the spinners tremendously.

Atticus Browne and Ryan John revived the innings, putting on a 45 run partnership from 27 deliveries that contained 3 fours and 2 sixes. Atticus Browne was dismissed for 28 from 16 deliveries, hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes and probably signalling to the Breakers camp that he should probably be batting higher in the order. Other than the mis stumping, his footworks against the spin was credible.

Strikers would be disappointed with their bowling effort on a sluggish pitch as they conceded 42 runs between overs 5 to 7. Strikers bowled the last three overs better, only allowing 21 runs and restricting Breakers to 89/8 from their 10 overs. Ryan John top scored with 34 from 27 deliveries, hitting 4 fours.

Strikers got off to a good start, with Bascombe and Sealroy Williams taking a boundary each off the first over. Bascombe hit Atticus Browne for a maximum during the 2nd over to signal his intent. Bascombe was in the zone and hit another 2 fours and 1 six off the 3rd over bowled by Ryan John. It was Atticus Browne’s day as he had a double wicket over, to finish the powerplay in the balance, Strikers being 32/2.

Jomel Warrican was deliberately held back to apply pressure outside of the powerplay. Richie Richards however played him beautifully, slogging for six then cutting for four. Richie Richards was run out during the 6th over, to set back the Strikers chase. The equation came down to 40 runs from 24 deliveries.

Strikers got the boundaries regularly and was helped by some extras from the Breakers. Bascombe and James steered the team beautifully to bring the equation down to 5 runs from the final over. Bascombe made 43 from 26 deliveries, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes. Joshua James made 19 from 12 deliveries, hitting 2 fours and 1 six. Strikers won the game with 2 balls to spare. Atticus Browne was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets for 9 runs from his two overs.
