Salt Pond Breakers vs Grenadines Divers Match Report – 16th Match VPL 4
Divers won the toss and chose to bowl.
Divers had a dream start to their bowling effort, with captain Hooper having Nedd out stumped for a golden duck. Breakers however didn’t let that deter them for long as they cashed in during the 2nd over bowled by Abraham. Walker pulled the 2nd delivery for six and Alleyne slog swept then cut powerfully square on the offside for another maximum. Alleyne was in a savage mood, driving Hooper powerfully down the ground for six. He pulled Joseph for six during the 4th over and then guided a length delivery to the vacant third man boundary for four, showing a touch of class. Breakers finished the powerplay on 55/1.
Bracie Browne had Alleyne caught at long on off the first delivery of his spell. The over then went in the other direction as Breakers took 15 runs from the remaining deliveries, the highlight being a length ball flicked by Walker for six. Geron Wyllie was introduced to bowl the sixth over and it paid dividends as he only conceded three runs and got the wicket of Rickford Walker who made 22 from 16 deliveries, which included 1 four and 2 sixes.
Geron Wyllie and Wesrick Strough crippled the Breakers batting effort. They both combined for 4 overs for 25 runs and 4 wickets. The innings finished in laughable fashion as the last four batsmen were all dismissed via the run out route off the final four deliveries of the innings. Breakers finished their innings on 103. Kadeem Alleyne top scored with 33 from 13 deliveries, hitting 1 four and 4 sixes. With the ball, Wyllie took 2 for 11 while Strough took 2 for 12, both from their two overs.
Breakers had a good start with the ball, with Delorn Johnson taking the wicket of Roland Cato. It was an extraordinary piece of team fielding as Ricavo Williams fumbled the catch, only for Kadeem Alleyne to dive and take the rebound. Shem Browne came to the crease and in usual fashion, threw his bat at everything and got two boundaries in the process. Jomel Warrican, West Indies test spinner, arrived as a replacement player and was immediately in the wickets column as Asif Hooper managed to hit a full toss into the hands of the deep mid wicket fielder.
Divers went into further disarray as Hiram Shallow drove square and was caught on the boundary by Beniton Stapleton off the bowling of Ryan John in the 3rd over. There was more imminent damage as Jomel Warrican had Abraham plumb lbw. Divers finished the powerplay on 21/4 and facing an uphill task for the balance of the match.
The game became a one sided affair as Divers lost wickets regularly and could only get to 57/8 after their allotted 10 overs. Jomel Warrican in his debut match, took 2 wickets for 2 runs. Kadeem Alleyne was also superb taking 2 wickets for 7 runs. Shem Browne was the top scorer for Divers with 17 from 13 deliveries, hitting 2 fours and 1 six.
