Match Preview: La Soufriere Hikers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers – 14th Match VPL 4
Strikers, quite a familiar story, has been the only team not to register a win so far. While they have been struggling, Hikers on the other hand seems to be picking form and are looking like clear favourites heading into this match. If Strikers do manage to pull one out the bag, it maybe an upset for the Hikers.
In The Spotlight
Hikers have won their last two games and it seems like a familiar path from what happened in the last VPL when they struggled at the start of the season and eventually found their way back and won the tournament. They still have some cause for concern in that captain Maloney is still struggling for runs. Douglas is back in the runs and the Hikers is such a dangerous side when he’s in good form. Hikers bowling is being carried by the economical Kavem Hodge and the hitman in Rayan Williams, who has been taking wickets for fun in VPL for the last two seasons. Hikers major cause of concern would be that the others bowlers are struggling and can be their weak point. There is enough talent in the batting to compensate even if few of the recognized batsmen don’t score runs.
Strikers are an enigma, blowing hot or cold. While they competed in their 2nd and 3rd match, they were completely outplayed in their 1st and 4th match. Which of the Strikers will turn up tomorrow? It’s left to be seen. One reckon that Miles Bascombe will have to play the innings of his life to take Strikers to victory. Strikers have had contributions from Hackshaw, Thurton and James while all the other batsmen seem to be struggling. Their bowling has been commendable in the past two games, apart from the last over mishap during the 3rd game. The onus seems back on the batsmen to take Strikers through for their first win. A lot of fans, even neutrals, would be rallying behind the Strikers tomorrow.
