La Soufriere Hikers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers Match Report – 14th Match VPL 4
Hikers won the toss and chose to bowl.
Strikes, in a must win game, didn’t get off to a good start, only managing 8 runs from their first two overs. Hodge was taken for a boundary and a maximum by Bascombe during the 3rd over but Hodge got the wicket of Hackshaw to start a mini slide for the Strikers. Lewis, although being pulled for 6 by Bascombe, bounced back to have Bascombe and Thurton dismissed and had Strikers starring down the barrel of a gun at 26/3 at the end of the powerplay.
Strikers continued to slide even further as Donwell Hector was run out off the last ball of the 5th over by Rayan Williams off his own bowling. Sealroy Williams provided some respite for the Strikers, hitting 1 four and 2 sixes to take 19 runs off the 6th over and push Strikers to 48/4. The dangerous Joshua James was dismissed by Jeremy Layne in the 7th over, continuing the misery for the Strikers.
Rayan Williams, currently the leader wicket taker of the tournament continued to move higher up the ladder by taking two more wickets. Strikers were bowled out for 58 from 9.2 overs, a really poor effort at the crease. Othneil Lewis, Rayan Williams, Romario Bibby and Jeremy Layne all took 2 wickets each.
It was a walk in the park for the Hikers as they chased down their target in 4.1 overs. Kavem Hodge top scored with 32 from 10 deliveries, hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes. Hikers lost two wickets in the chase but they tried to get the runs quickly to give their net run rate a boost, which may very well play a part later down into the tournament.
Fort Charlotte Strikers 58 all out (9.2 overs)
La Soufriere Hikers 60/2 (4.1 overs)
