Botanical Gardens Rangers vs Dark View Explorers Match Report – 13th Match VPL 4

March 25, 2022

Rangers won the toss and chose to bowl.

Larry Edwards bowled the first over and continued to be his usual economical self, not bowling any gifts to allow the batsmen to get away. Dean Browne hit Dember for a pulled six over mid wicket during the 2nd over. Athanaze sweetly timed a drive over long off from the bowling of Edwards during the 3rd over. Edwards got Athanaze out attempting the reverse sweep. Athanaze would be disappointed seeing it’s how he was dismissed in his last innings. Kimali Williams was taken for two boundaries by Shaman Hooper in the final over of the powerplay. Kimali got the wicket of Dean Browne from a top edged pull shot – Explorers finishing the powerplay on 34/2.

After the powerplay, Explorers lost wickets regularly and couldn’t get any momentum in their innings. The lone hand came from Shaman Hooper who top scored with 34 from 21 deliveries, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. Razine Browne was the pick of the bowlers for the Rangers, taking 3 for 18 from his two overs. Rangers finished their innings on 87/8 from their ten overs, well below par by the tournament standards.

Darius Martin, new ball specialist bowled a good first over, only conceding four runs. Rangers cashed in on the next three overs of the powerplay and they were quite productive for the Rangers. They took 39 runs from the powerplay and the only blemish was the lost of Salvan Browne, being trapped lbw by Greaves off the final delivery of the 4th over.

Rangers strangled themselves during the 5th and 6th over, only able to get 7 runs in total, with 3 of those being extras. With serious pressure now mounting, Fletcher tried to work his attacking magic but Sealron Williams worked his magic instead. In the 7th over, he had Fletcher caught at long on then had Harper caught behind off consecutive deliveries. All the form batsmen were back in the hut with 39 runs needed from 19 deliveries.

Athanaze bowled the 8th over and although Cottoy got a maximum, the over wasn’t damaging for the Explorers. Rangers needed 28 runs from 12 deliveries. Darius Martin bowled the penultimate over and didn’t allow Rangers any freebies. He also got the wicket of Cottoy. With 21 runs for victory off the last over, Rangers could only get 10 runs and fell well short of their target by 10 runs.
