Salt Pond Breakers vs Dark View Explorers Match Report – 12th Match VPL 4

March 24, 2022

Breakers won the toss and chose to bowl.

Delorn Johnson and Atticus Browne opened the bowling and it was a pedestrian start by the Explorers. Romano Pierre stepped on the accelerator and pulled Ryan John for six off the first delivery of the 3rd over. Ryan John had Pierre caught attempting another big pull shot. He also had Hooper for a golden duck off the last ball of the over. Atticus bowled the final over of the powerplay and only conceded 3 runs to stall the Explorers at 25/2. Atticus Browne’s two overs only went for 7 runs.

Athanaze played a ridiculous reverse sweep off seamer Stapleton that sailed over third man for six. He followed in the next over by smacking a full delivery from Alleyne on the mid wicket roof. Greaves joined the action and drove powerfully through the leg side for a boundary to push Explorers to 49/2 after 6 overs. Athanaze perished in the 7th over, trying one too many reverse sweeps and dragging the ball onto his stumps. Athanaze made 33 from 27 deliveries, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Explorers struggled to find the boundaries and laboured along to 80/4 at the end of their innings. Although the pitch was offering some assistance for the slower bowlers, the target was quite below par. Ryan John was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 for 18 from his two overs.

Darius Martin opened the bowling and Nedd threw his bat after a shortish one and got a thick edge down to third man for four. Rickford Walker, strong against pace, pulled a short one over mid wicket for a maximum. Martin corrected his length and pitched up the next delivery and had Walker caught at mid off by Dean Browne, one of the safest pair of hands in the VPL. Deron Greaves was taken for two boundaries in his 2nd over. Dean Browne was called upon for the 3rd over and he continued his good bowling form to only concede 7 runs off the over, which included a missed opportunity. Nedd and Alleyne both hit two fours off debutant Aleon Caesar to finish the powerplay on 49/1 – a bit harsh to bowl the debutant in the powerplay.

Dean Browne and Luke Wilson combined beautifully during the 5th and 6th over. Luke Wilson bowled extremely well, noticing the pitch aiding spinners and bowling slowly and getting the ball to turn. He picked up the wicket of Stapleton, having him stumped off a wide delivery. Sealron Williams bowled the 7th over and only conceded three singles. He beat the bat on a few occasion, getting some bounce and turn. John and Alleyne both struck a maximum during the 8th over. Victory was sealed during the 9th over, the Breakers winning with 9 balls to spare. Kadeem Alleyne top scored with 36 from 18 deliveries, hitting 5 fours and 1 six. Breakers remaining comfortable at the top of the table.
