Match Report – 9th Match VPL 4: La Soufriere Hikers vs Dark View Explorers
Explorers won the toss and decided to field.
Pope started the innings streakily, inside edging to the fine leg boundary for four. There was nothing streaky when he pulled savagely soon after over mid wicket for four. Gidron continued attacking and got two boundaries off the 2nd over. Dean Browne bowled a wonderful over, varying his pace beautifully and got the key wicket of Desron Maloney. Deron Greaves bowled the final over of the powerplay which conceded 14 runs, allowing Hikers to get to 39/1.
Hikers generated momentum and took 29 runs combined from the 5th and 6th over, with Dillon Douglas finally picking back some form. Hikers consistently got ten or more runs per over to finish their innings on 110/4. Dillon Douglas top scored with 52 from 23 deliveries, hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes. Dean Bowled bowled cunningly, varying his pace often and proving hard to hit away. He finished with 1/16 from his two overs but a spilled chance that went for six made his figures appear worse than it should have been.
Othneil Lewis started the bowling for Hikers and was lucky when he got Athanaze for duck, caught on the mid wicket boundary off a full toss. Explorers were struggling to score, being on 14/2 after three overs. Romano Pierre was run out by a brilliant direct hit from Othneil Lewis. Hodge bowled the final powerplay over and tried one too many extra flighted deliveries, as Shaman Hooper waited on the backfoot and pulled over mid wicket for maximum – Explorers finishing the powerplay on 28/2.
Explorers continued struggling when Hooper was caught by Small off his own bowling, to sink them further at 37/3 after 5 overs. When Rayan Williams bowled the 8th over and took three wickets in the over, there was definitely no where back for the Explorers. Explorers finished on 72 all out from 9.3 overs. Rayan Williams was the pick of the bowlers with 4/18, taking his tally to 8 wickets from two games. Hikers won by 38 runs.
