
Match Report – 8th Match VPL 4: Salt Pond Breakers vs Botanical Gardens Rangers
Rangers won the toss and chose to bowl.
Kadir Nedd was on a mission, advancing down the ground and flat batting the first delivery from Edwards over mid wicket for six. He advanced during the 3rd delivery and sweetly timed a drive for four. He swung another six and took 19 from the over, which included Nedd being dropped by Dember on the mid wicket boundary and a mis stumping from Salvan Browne. Nedd continued to hammer away, hitting 2 fours and 1 six off the 2nd over bowled by Kesrick Williams. Walker in the 3rd over, hit Dember for a boundary but Dember had him caught on the mid wicket boundary by Andre Fletcher, who spilled it at first but caught the rebound. Nedd drove Dember down the ground for a boundary and then attempted a slog and skied in the air and was dropped by Larry Edwards. Breakers finished a productive powerplay on a 53/1.
Nedd was dropped by Kimali Williams off Kenneth Dember in the 6th over, his 3rd time being dropped. Nedd brought up his half century in the sixth over when he clubbed Dember over mid wicket for six. His half century came off 24 deliveries. Nedd continued to make Rangers pay and led Breakers to 84/2 after 7 overs, a good platform to launch in the backend of the innings.
Winston Samuel was brought on to bowl the 8th over, which was his first over of the tournament. He bowled purely cutters and got the wickets of Nedd and John to peg Breakers back to 86/4 from 8 overs. Skipper Kesrick Williams bowled the penultimate over and removed Delorn Johnson, having him caught at long off by Kenneth Dember. Beniton Stapleton was run out by a direct hit from Salvan Browne which saw Breakers falling apart in dramatic fashion. Breakers finished their innings on 104/8, finishing well below what they were expecting.
Fletcher started the chase in emphatic fashion, walking down the track and punching a short delivery through the offside. The next deliver was clubbed over long on for six. Salvan Browne wanted piece of the action and he was just as effective, hitting a hat trick of boundaries through the offside, taking 23 runs from the over.
Kenzley Joseph was into the attack for the 2nd over and had Fletcher out caught at long on. Salvan Browne pulled and cut for four but fell plumb lbw to Joseph to give him his 2nd wicket of the over. Ryan John struck off the last ball of the 3rd over, having Wayne Harper out caught at covers. There was more damaged inflicted as Joseph bowled Keron Cottoy while he attempted to pull off a length during the 4th over. Rangers ended the powerplay on 42/4.
Rangers was in a heap of problems as Dember & Gibson fell in consecutive overs, leaving Rangers reeling at 57/6 after six overs. Larry Edwards played a brief cameo, scoring 18 from 10 deliveries, hitting 1 four and 2 sixes to offer Rangers some hope. Delorn Johnson was up to bowl the final over, tasked with preventing Rangers from scoring 16 runs. Kesrick Williams got an inside edge on the first delivery for four. Razine Browne managed the same on the 4th delivery. Johnson delivered a no ball on what was to be the fifth delivery of the over, leaving six for victory from two deliveries. Johnson bowled Browne off the free hit and it was left to six runs from one delivery. Johnson delivered a yorker and it was all but over for the Rangers.
