Match Report – 3rd Match VPL 4: Botanical Gardens Rangers vs La Soufriere Hikers

March 20, 2022

Rangers won the toss and chose to bowl.

They would have been pleased with their decision to bowl, restricting Hikers to 21/2 at the end of the powerplay. By then, they had already removed dangermen Gidron Pope and Dillon Douglas. Larry Edwards, the left arm spinner from St Lucia, was having a brilliant day, accounting for both and was on  a hat trick in the process.

Hikers innings was in a stall and were 44/3 after 8 overs. They however gained momentum and scored 31 runs from the last two overs. Desron Maloney, who struggled for most of the innings, recovered to top score with 25 runs from 25 deliveries. He struck 2 sixes and 1 four. Hikers finished their innings on 75/5, way below par on such a good batting surface.

Andre Fletcher started all guns blazing, hitting Lewis for 2 sixes and 1 four but Lewis had the last laugh as he had him caught behind. Kavem Hodge bowled economically, completing his two overs quota for only 8 runs. The runs however continued to flow otherwise, with Salvan Browne shaking off his rustiness and hammering the bowling attack to all parts of the ground.

Rangers chased their target in 6.5 overs, completing a very comprehensive win. Salvan Browne top scored with 41 not out from 28 deliveries, hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes. Wayne Harper remained not out on 13 from 6 deliveries, hitting 2 fours and looking in good touch.

La Soufriere Hikers 75/5 (10 overs)
