Match Report – 2nd Match VPL 4: La Soufriere Hikers vs Salt Pond Breakers

March 19, 2022

Unexpected rain delayed the start of the game, reducing the game to 7 overs per side.

Salt Pond Breakers won the toss and chose to field. Gidron Pope faced up first and drove over long off for 6. Delorn Johnson got captain Maloney on the 4th delivery of the first over. Gidron Pope, already looking in better touch than in the previous two editions, continued to hit boundaries before the rain came and interrupted play during the 2nd over – 19/1 from 1.3 overs.

After the rain subsided and play was able to resume, the game was further reduced to 3 overs. Gidron Pope continued in tremendous fashion, as he looked at his very best and plundered the bowling attack. Kadeem Alleyne bowled the final over and it was a horrible one to say the least, conceding 25 runs. The over contained two no balls and three wides. Hikers finished on a very imposing total of 51/2 from their 3 overs. Gidron Pope top scored with 40 not out.

Breakers came out all guns blazing, as they should have. Ryan John and Beniton Stapleton put on a show, smashing boundary after boundary. 19 runs was taken off the 1st over and 24 taken from the 2nd. Kadeem Alleyne, villain with the ball in the first innings, rebounded beautifully to smash 2 sixes to finish the match in style. Breakers, finally, taking advantage over the Hikers!
