Match Preview – 2nd Match VPL 4: La Soufriere Hikers vs Salt Pond Breakers

March 19, 2022

A contest between Hikers and Breakers was the most looked forward to contest that VPL had to offer. Of late, it has become a one sided affair with Hikers rolling over the Breakers most often than not.

In The Spotlight

Hikers have lost the service of Salvan Browne, a no nonsense explosive batter at the top. They have captain Maloney, and the ever impressive Dillon Douglas to continue to lead their batting. Although they have lost Browne, they picked up Gidron Pope, former West Indies U19 big hitting star, who has faded slightly in previous editions, but will be very keen to once again be the talk of the town. Hikers game plan however is very clear, in that they intend to stifle teams through spin bowling as they have the potential to produce 10 overs of quality spin bowling.

Breakers are without their superstar Sunil Ambris. They however made good during the draft by picking up St Lucia Zouks all rounder Kadeem Alleyne and Windward Islands all rounder in Ryan John. They once again have Ricavo Williams, who played tremendously well for them in the past but missed the previous edition. Kadir Nedd is back again with the Breakers, where he first made his name in the tournament. Beniton Stapleton, the only player to have won all editions of the VPL, is back with the Breakers, and maybe, it’s the kind of luck the Breakers need to try to win their 2nd title.
