VPL 4.0 starts this weekend

Arnos Vale, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – VPLT10 4.0 blasts off March 19, 2022. The ten overs tournament first match will bowl off at midday on Saturday at the usual venue, Arnos Vale Playing Field. The 4th edition will be played over 15 days until April 3, 2022.

The colorful tournament, which climaxed with estimated 2,500 spectators last year May, will be a fully vaccinated event. This means that all players, officials, and spectators must be fully vaccinated to enjoy the matches at Arnos vale.

For this 4th edition, there will be some new features, namely, the inclusion of overseas players. Andre Fletcher, the West Indies T20 star from Grenada, will be playing for the first time in the VPL. Other players from the Windward Islands and Barbados will feature in the competition.

A first for the tournament will be two Women’s teams. They will face off in a series of matches. The two teams were selected from the best Vincentian cricketers. This will be the first time females will play the ten overs format.

SVGCA President Romel Currency confirmed his delight at the upcoming tournament, particularly the new features. “As we remain committed to the continued evolution of the VPL, it is pleasing to bring new features to the tournament. The 4th edition will see our female cricketers featuring for the first time, and there is also the inclusion of more overseas players than ever. It is also exciting to be incorporating more technologies, which will show an improved T10 product,” said Currency.

La Soufriere Hikers is the defending franchise. They will commence their defense of the title against Salt Pond Breakers on the first afternoon of the tournament.
