
Match Report – Qualifier 1: Dark View Explorers vs La Soufriere Hikers
Explorers won the toss and chose to bat.
Othneil Lewis bowled a good first over, setting the tempo for the innings. The 2rd and 3rd over went most in favour of Explorers, with 20 runs coming from them combined but also included the loss of Deron Greaves. Kemron Strough bowled the final powerplay over which only cost five runs, to leave the game firmly in the balance with the score being 30-1.
O’Jay Matthews delivered the 5th over, which was an excellent one which consisted of four singles. By now, the Hikers seemed in control of the game and that was more imminent when Dillon Douglas had Pierre removed off the first delivery of the sixth over. The over sank Explorers as Hooper and Dean Browne also fell victim playing explosive drives to long off – Explorers 36-4 after 6 overs. It got worse as Lindon James and Rayan Williams fell in successive overs. Sealron Williams gave Explorers some hope as he smashed three sixes off the penultimate over. Sealron also finished the innings with a maximum, to push Explorers to 77-6 from their 10 overs. Sealron Williams finished not out on 26 from 7 deliveries, smashing 4 sixes. Dillon Douglas was the pick of the bowlers with 3-24 from his two overs.
Hikers lost captain Maloney early in the chase. Dillon Douglas and Salvan Browne was showing a continuance of form as they went on the attack to put Hikers at 30-1 after 3 overs. Rayan Williams, remarkably improved during this edition, removed Dillon Douglas. Salvan Browne kept on the attack and helped Hikers to 46-2 at the half way stage. Salvan Browne was out plumb lbw to Rayan Williams on the final ball of the 6th over. By then, the damage had already been done as Browne made 41 from 28 deliveries, hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes.
Atticus Browne strolled to the crease and finished the game in style, advancing down the ground and hitting a straight six.
