Match Report – Eliminator 1: Fort Charlotte Strikers vs Salt Pond Breakers

Strikers won the toss and chose to bat.

The first over was quiet, bowled by Samuels and consisted of two singles. Cosmus Hackshaw and Miles Bascombe scored a six and four a piece to push the score to 27-0 after 3 overs. Kensley Joseph, nonchalantly bowled the final over of the powerplay and conceded only two runs.

Delorn Johnson was up for the 5th over and Bascombe hit down the ground for six, then helped a length delivery behind square and edged down to third man for boundaries. Kensley Joseph was having a dream day with the ball, bowling his two overs for 5 runs and taking the wicket of Hackshaw to pull back the Strikers to 47-1 after 6 overs. Denson Hoyte and Sunil Ambris bowled identical overs, taking a wicket and conceding 8 runs. With Strikers being 63-3 after 8 overs, they needed a big finish to stay in the hunt. The last over conceded 16 runs and Strikers pushed to 88/4, pretty much a par total more than anything.

Strikers had a dream start in defending the game. Ray Jordan had Ambris caught down the leg side then Nigel Small took a brilliant catch to dismiss Rickford Walker. It resulted in a double wicket maiden, a rarity in this form of cricket. Nigel Small had Kensley Joseph dismissed in the 3rd over. The powerplay overs went Strikers way, having Breakers struggled on 24-3. Andrew Thomas was in a six hitting mode and slapped 3 sixes and a four to prop up Breakers score 47-4 after 6 overs.

Nigel Small got the wicket of Seon Sween in the 7th over. Delorn Johnson was run out going back for a 2nd and Ray Jordan bowled Denson Hoyte for a golden duck. Breakers were struggling on 60-7 after 8 overs. Shaquille Browne delivered the 9th over and dismissed Andrew Thomas, who scored 32 runs from 17 deliveries that contained 1 four and 3 sixes. Breakers being 71-8, required 18 for victory with two wickets in hand. Sheldon Hooper hit a six during the over but they failed to get any other boundary and fell short by 4 runs to end their campaign.
