
Match Report – 22nd Match: La Soufriere Hikers vs Salt Pond Breakers
Breakers won the toss and chose to bat.
Ambris cut Javid Harry for couple fours but was out caught by the keeper attempting another. The over was quite costly, conceding 19 runs. Oziko Williams cut for four and pulled a big six over mid wicket. He was run out in the 3rd over bowled by Beniton Stapleton. Lewis got a double wicket over when he bowled the final powerplay over, leaving Breakers reeling at 40-4.
Rickford Walker was in form, along with Kensley Joseph who hit three consecutive sixes in the 6th over. Overs 5 and 6 both went for 22 runs each, pumping the Breakers score to 84-4. Strough delivered the 8th over and removed the dangerous Rickford Walker who scored 30 from 12 deliveries, hitting 1 four and 3 sixes. Strough bowled well and kept the score to 99-5 after 8. Delorn Johnson wielded the long handle and smacked two sixes and a four to push Breakers to 117 after 9 overs. Strough again was excellent, conceding six runs from the over and limiting the damage, with Breakers finishing on 123-6 from their 10 overs.
Salvan Browne started the chase well, sweeping Jevon Samuels for six over square leg. In the 2nd over, he took a liking to Ambris and pulled for four and six then flayed one through the offside for four, taking Hikers to 21-0 after 2 overs. Samuels was driven through mid off then cut for boundaries by Browne. The big man Delorn Johnson bowled the final powerplay over and bowled with good variety to keep the over to only 3 runs and limiting Hikers to 35-0 at the end of the over.
Denson Hoyte removed Maloney in the 5th over. Dillon Douglas wasted no time and went bang for four and six to start his innings. Ambris had Browne stumped for 34 from 22 deliveries (4 fours and 2 sixes) to peg back the Hikers. 66 runs was required from 24 deliveries. Douglas had other plans as he tore into Tijourn Pope and took 24 runs from the over, hitting couple outrageous sixes.
Othnei Lewis, after watching from the other end for a while, got into the thick of things. He went 4, 4, 6 from the final 3 deliveries of the 8th over pushing Hikers to 98/2 and leaving 26 runs from 12 deliveries. Denson Hoyte, now proving to be Breakers best bowler bowled very well up until the last delivery, which was hit for 6 by Douglas. 16 runs was required from the last over. Douglas slapped a six off the first legal delivery and with 6 runs required from two deliveries, Douglas hammered another six to win the game in style. Douglas scored 56 from 18 deliveries, hitting 2 fours and 7 sixes. Othneil Lewis played a good hand of 18 from 10 deliveries, hitting 2 fours and 1 six.
