
Match Report – 18th Match: Grenadines Divers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers
Strikers won the toss and chose to bat.
Strikers started sedately, taking 12 from the first two overs. Bascombe got into the act and was harsh on Asif Hooper, taking 18 from the over. 11 runs came from the final over of the powerplay, Strikers moving along nicely to 41-0. Strikers kept the run rate steady and got 36 runs from overs 5 to 8, setting themselves up for a big finish.
Gidron Pope joined the show and took consecutive fours off Dalzell’s over, the penultimate one of the innings. The over conceded 13 runs taking Strikers to 90-2. Strikers was aiming for a big finish, knowing that anything over 100 runs has been a challenge for teams to chase this edition. Gidron Pope had his best innings for a long time and delivered a destructive 29 not out from 12 deliveries, hitting 4 fours and 1 six. Bascombe remained not out on 48 from 31 deliveries, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes. Strikers finished on 106-2 from their 10 overs. Razine Browne continued his fine bowling from yesterday to take 1-15 from his 2 overs.
Rasheed Fredericks had Nedd bowled off the 3rd delivery of the chase. Ray Jordan had Shem Browne bowled in the 2nd over, Divers in a spot of bother at 18-2. Asif Hooper was in a no nonsense mood and started to swing for the boundaries and hitting some massive sixes. He drove Divers to 40-2 at the end of the powerplay.
Shaquille Browne had Abraham bowled in the 5th over. He was also off target, bowling four wides, allowing Divers to get 10 off the over. Lavia was expensive bowling the 6th over, conceding 14 runs. The equation was down to 43 from 24 deliveries; anybody’s game!
Nigel Small bowled the 7th over and struck gold, as he bowled Asif Hooper. Small seems to have found the answer for left handers as this has become a typical mode of dismissal, having them forced back to pull only to be beaten for pace off the wicket. Wyllie was introduced for the 8th over and didn’t deliver a good one, and had a six hit by Javed Williams and a pull shot for four by Richie Richards. 25 runs was required from 12 deliveries.
Small bowled the 9th over and did well, only allowing 8 runs and leaving 17 runs required for victory from the final over. Richards swung big over long on for six then was proceeded with 3 dot balls, one of which he was lbw by Lavia. The final two deliveries were singles and Strikers won by 8 runs and booking their spot in the playoffs.
