Match Report – 16th Match: Grenadines Divers vs La Soufriere Hikers
Divers won the toss and chose to bat.
Kadir Nedd was bowled for a duck by Javid Harry in the first over. Shem Browne was brilliantly caught by captain Maloney off Otheil Lewis’ bowling, Divers in an early spot of bother being 7-2 after 2 overs. Divers started to make amends as Kevin Abraham looked in brilliant touch and was playing beautiful shots all around. Abraham and captain Hooper combined to take 34 runs from the 5 and 6th over combined, putting them comfortably at 58-2.
Asif Hooper was in belligerent mood, pumping sixes at will and continuing to drive the Divers to a meaningful total. Kevin Abraham flayed O’Jay Matthews for two effortless six and a sweetly timed four but the bowler had the last laugh as Abraham was out caught. Abraham made 42 from 18 deliveries, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes. Hooper brought up his half century in 26 deliveries but fell the next delivery. His score of 52 came from 27 deliveries, hitting 3 fours and 5 sixes and putting Divers in a commanding position. Divers could only muster 4 from the final over, but still finishing on a very competitive score of 107/6 from their allotted 10 overs.
Hikers lost Maloney on the 3rd ball of the innings, stumped off the bowling of Asif Hooper. Hikers were 12-1 after 3 overs but a massive final powerplay over of 23 runs lifted them. The Browne brothers of Bracie & Razine combined magnificently to stem the flow of runs, only conceding 18 runs between overs 5 to 8. Bracie in particular was bowling with good pace and accounted for his brother’s Salvan wicket. Bracie returned figures of 1-8 and Razine 1-10, basically putting the game out of reach of the Hikers.
Divers ended up winning quite convincingly, by 35 runs, and giving their net run rate a significant boast.
Grenadines Divers 107/6 (10 overs)
La Soufriere Hikers 72/4 (10 overs)
