
Match Report – 13th Match: Salt Pond Breakers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers
Breakers won the toss and choose to bat first, on what was looking a decent wicket to get some runs.
Breakers were immediately in trouble, losing Ozico Williams for duck, one of their form player – Fredericks delivering an impressive first over. Ray Jordan immediately had Sunil Ambris caught down the leg side with a brilliant catch by wicket keeper Hackshaw. Both bowlers completed their quota in the powerplay to restrict Breakers to 13-2.
Runs started to flow more freely outside the powerplay, with Breakers scoring 60 runs from their last 6 overs. Rickford Walker who has been struggling for form, found his range and made a quick 21 from 10 deliveries not out, hitting 2 sixes and looking like the dangerous player we all know he is. Sheldon Hooper supported with 20 from 21 balls, hitting 3 fours. Kirton Lavia was the pick of the bowlers for Strikers, taking 2-15 from his 2 overs and helping to restrict Breakers to 73/7.
The game was evenly poised throughout the powerplay, Strikers not getting away but not getting too far behind, finishing the powerplay on 23/1. Ambris bowling his 2 overs for 14 runs and getting the lone wicket. Strikers were starting to get worried as they lost Sealroy Williams for a 4 ball duck, and the required rate now going up with a fickle batting line up. Things could have been even worse, but Johnson dropped Pope on his 2nd delivery as he advanced and drilled Samuel over long off, which burst through the hands for six.
The equation was down to 44 runs from 30 deliveries, with 8 wickets in hand. Bascombe showed his power and pumped two pull shot for maximums in the 6th over, taking the score to 44. Denson Hoyte bowled a good 7th over, only conceding 4 runs and brought the equation down to 26 from 18 deliveries. Bascombe got a streaky edge for 4 and then pumped a hard straight drive for 6, to push the total to 61. Denson Hoyte bowled a miracle penultimate over, only conceding 1 run. The experience of Miles Bascombe saw the Strikers home with one ball to spare, smoking the 4th delivery for 6 and helping the 5th delivery down fine leg for a 4, which also brought up his half century from 28 deliveries. He hit 3 fours and 4 sixes.
