Match Preview – 13th Match: Salt Pond Breakers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers

May 21, 2021

Fort Charlotte Strikers have had their best ever start to a VPL campaign, winning half of their matches played so far. Breakers are facing a strange scenario, losing their past two games. You can surely bet that they’d not be eager to make it 3 losses in a row.

In The Spotlight

Salt Pond Breakers are on a bad streak, not getting much support in the batting line up apart from the opening pair in the last two matches. Teams have identified that and they will be working hard on breaking that partnership early to put them on the backfoot. Breakers will have to come up with a game plan quick and fast. The bowling was put to the sword by the Hikers batsmen, but they have generally bowled well in the tournament so far.

Fort Charlotte Strikers should be full of confidence – after all, they have never enjoyed success this early in the tournament. They’ll want to send Breakers sinking further by giving them 3 losses in a row. Few days ago was the first time that Strikers ever defeated Salt Pond Breakers. Strikers batting is still a major cause for concern and it will be interesting to see what is done to combat that issue. Otherwise, they have a pretty well gelled unit.

Players To Watch

Sunil Ambris (Breakers) – Got out at critical times in the last two matches which basically triggered the end of their run chase. A player of his stature will surely be looking to make amends and ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Sealroy Williams (Strikers) – He hasn’t gotten fully into his groove yet but is a top quality stroke player. He has played deadly innings before and this game maybe his chance to shine.

The weather is set to be partly cloudy to sunny for most of the day, with very little chance of rain playing any part in the match.

Pitch Conditions

The surface being used for this game, is the one that was used for the first two days, which played slow and two pace. From viewing the pitch on the eve of the match, it doesn’t look like conditions will improve much, if any.
