Match Report – 12th Match: Salt Pond Breakers vs La Soufriere Hikers

May 20, 2021

Hikers won the toss and chose to bat first, not allowing Breakers to bat first as they love to do.

Hikers lost Salvan Browne to a one ball duck, caught brilliantly by Kensley Joseph at backward square. In Marched Dillon Douglas and today was his day. He immediately took to the bowlers and started with a flurry of boundaries. He powered Hikers to 43-1 at the end of the powerplay. He brought up his half century in the 6th over, only taking 22 balls. He was dismissed soon after, his knock of 52 came from 24 deliveries, hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes.

Captain Maloney and Othneil Lewis kept on powering along, as well as being aided by ill discipline bowling gifting away numerous wides. Maloney got 27 from 19 deliveries, hitting 1 four and 2 sixes. He was well supported by Lewis who got 23 not out from 13 deliveries, hitting 1 four and 2 sixes. Hikers got to 122/3, quite a mammoth total. Delorn Johnson with 0-15 from his 2 overs, was the only bowler not to concede at a rate of over 10 per over.

Breakers got off to a good start, taking 14 from the first over, with Ambris hitting a 4 and Ozico Williams drilling a 6 over long off. Ambris was in destructive mode and hit 3 fours and 1 six in the final powerplay over to push the Breakers to 48/0 – exactly the kind of start they needed in the huge run chase.

The next 3 overs saw Breakers losing 3 wickets for 25 runs, leaving 50 required from 18 deliveries. Beniton Stapleton broke the opening partnership and had Oziko Williams and Seon Sween out on the final 2 deliveries of his first over. Beniton Stapleton broke the back of Breakers as he dismissed Johnson to take his hat trick. He wasn’t done as he had Ambris out caught off the next delivery, taking 4 wickets in his last 4 deliveries. The game was done and dusted after that point, and Breakers fell short of their target by 31 runs.
