Match Report – 11th Match: Grenadines Divers vs Dark View Explorers

May 20, 2021

Explorers won the toss and chose to bat first.

Explorers had a sedate start to their innings, being forced to defend and get the singles. Romano Pierre opened his arms in the 4th over and took 2 sixes and a four from Razine Browne’s over, taking the score to 34/1. Shamon Hooper got into his groove as well and struck a straight six off Braxie Browne who bowled the 5th over, conceding 11 runs.

Abraham was up to bowl the sixth over and was greeted with 2 sixes over long on by Pierre. Pierre was then run out with a powerful throw by Bracie Browne from the boundary going back for the 2nd run. Pierre fell for 39 from 17 deliveries striking 2 fours and 4 sixes, to continue his impressive form. Shamon Hooper went big over long on in the same over and was caught at long off from the final delivery, to bring his breezy innings to an end. Hooper made 18 from 10 deliveries, hitting 2 sixes.

Explorers had the momentum going with them, scoring 50 runs between overs 4 to 6. The onslaught continued as 30 runs came from overs 7 and 8. Lindon James joined in the fun powering some boundaries, along with Dean Browne who was looking ominous. Bracie Browne delivered a superb penultimate over, only conceding 6 runs. Dean Browne struck 2 sixes in the final over, and was dismissed off the final delivery but already doing the necessary damage, explorers scoring a big total of 117/4.  Browne made 27 from 13 deliveries hitting 1 four and 3 sixes while captain James remained not out on 23 from 13 deliveries, hitting 2 fours and 1 six.

Divers started in similar fashion to Explorers, slow in the first three overs. They weren’t able to follow the pattern of the Explorers who got big overs. Luke Wilson, seemingly the bowler of the tournament so far, continue to be very hard to get away. He bowled his 2 overs for 15 runs and got the wicket of Nedd. After 7 overs, Divers were 44/1, requiring another 74 runs from 18 deliveries, a next to impossible task.

With net run rate possibly playing a part later in the tournament, it was important for Divers to finish as close to the target as possible. While Divers got 38 runs from the final 3 overs, they fell short of their target by 35 runs.

Dark View Explorers 117/4 (10 overs)
Grenadines Divers 82/5 (10 overs)
