Match Preview – 8th Match: Fort Charlotte Strikers vs Dark View Explorers

It is still early days in the tournament, but this will be viewed as a crucial game between both teams. Whoever wins, will temporarily occupy the 3rd place spot – having two wins under your belt after 3 games is quite a good start to a campaign.

In The Spotlight

It has been the earliest that Fort Charlotte Strikers have registered a win in the tournament. Is that the spark that they need to have a break into the playoffs for the first time? The side is upbeat and they’ll be feeling confident on taking on the Explorers, who are coming off a big defeat. Explorers strength is clearly their batting, so Strikers will feel obligated to score big if they do bat first and they have struggled to do that consistently. They do possess players capable of doing it. Explorers would also be wary not to concede too many to the Strikers, as they have quite a varied and skillful bowling attack.

Explorers chink in their armour showed up once again, as they were hammered around the park by the Breakers. They stepped away from what eventually worked for them, bowling spin in the powerplay and pace to the death but it was a reversal this time around where pace bowled the first two overs and paid ten times over for it. It basically laid the platform for the hammering that they received. They will need to adapt quick and try to limit their opposition more closely. After all, they are a team that scores above average totals even when they are on the losing side so they really need to get their bowling plans sorted.

Players To Watch

Gidron Pope (Strikers) – Haven’t had a big innings for some time in VPL, but has shown urgency and fluency in his last innings. It’s time for him to come to party!

Lindon James (Explorers) – James, at the backend of his career, knows a lot rest on his shoulders. He has been off his batting game for a while. He will want to get some runs to reignite his sparks as he’s a lovely clean hitter when flowing.
