Match Report – 1st Match: La Soufriere Hikers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers
Hikers won the toss and choose to bowl first – quite a norm for them.
Kemron Strough delivered the first ball and had Leshawn Lewis caught pulling in the air off a short of a length delivery, presenting a simple catch for Stapleton at mid on. Bascombe hammered his 2nd delivery for 4 but was caught pulling at mid on by Douglas, Strough making an excellent start to his campaign, taking both wickets in similar fashion.
It continued to be a terrible affair for the Strikers, as they found themselves at 9/4, Strough taking 3 wickets from his 2 overs spell. It continued to be a shocking innings as Strikers found themselves at 17/6 – 4 players not middling their pull shot and getting caught. No one could muster any momentum on the sluggish nature of the pitch – the Hikers taking full advantage and restricting the Strikers to 43/9 from their alloted 10 overs, Strikers lowest score across all editions.
There wasn’t any trouble in the Hikers winning the game after their wonderful display, overhauling their target with minimum fuss, winning with 31 balls to spare. The usual batting trio of Browne, Maloney & Douglas made light work of the target, playing fearless and no nonsense cricket.
Fort Charlotte Strikers 43/9 (10 overs)
La Soufriere Hikers 48/1 (4.5 overs)
