Match Report: Finals – Salt Pond Breakers vs La Soufriere Hikers

November 22, 2020

Salt Pond Breakers won the toss and choose to bowl first.

Desron Maloney and Salvan Browne went on the rampage, looking to make amends for their dismal showing in the previous finals. They were out the blocks like Usain Bolt hunting down a world record. They took 4 sixes from the 3rd over of the game, bowled by Johnson and when the powerplay was finished, they were already at 52/0.

Jeremy Layne, joint leading wicket taker of the tournament bowled the 5th over and it was comical as both Maloney & Browne went via the run out route. Dillon Douglas was still there along with Kavem Hodge. However, it wasn’t Douglas that continued the assault. Hodge played his best innings of the tournament and raced to 40 from 19 deliveries, hitting 1 four and 5 sixes and getting Hikers to 131/3, their best score of the tournament.

The chase hinged hugely on Ambris, but he was dismissed off the 2nd delivery as he flicked Hodge trying to go over square leg but Cosmus Hackshaw jumped full stretch and pull out the pluck of the tournament, sending huge shockwaves throughout the Breakers camp. Ricavo Williams was out lbw off the 5th delivery. Ryan John perished in the 2nd over, Breakers 5/3 and all their big guns already back in the hut. By the time the 5th over was complete, Breakers were 5 down and completely out the game. They could only get to 63/9 and losing by a mammoth 68 runs.

It has been an unusual tournament for the Hikers, having to fight to get into the playoffs after struggling in the round robin stage. From the moment they entered the playoffs, they were a different team and peaked at the right time!

La Soufriere Hikers 131/3 (10 overs)
Salt Pond Breakers 63/9 (10 overs)
