Match Report: 5th Place Playoff – Grenadines Divers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers
Grenadines Divers won the toss and choose to bat.
Ray Jordan delivered an excellent over, something that we have become use to. Kadir Nedd, promoted to open the batting attacked Rasheed Fredericks and it paid off, taking 17 runs from the over, hitting 2 fours and 1 six – 22/0 after 2. Theophile went on the attack and hit 1 four and 2 sixes from the over taking the score to 39/0 after 3 overs. Divers were on the charge and Nedd struck Fredericks for a big six over long on then flicked sweetly over square leg for four. That was followed by a slog over mid wicket for another huge six then two more sixes were sent flying over long off – Divers finishing the powerplay on 67/0.
Kirton Lavia bowled the 5th over and avoided any boundaries. Kadir Nedd brought up his half century from 18 deliveries in the 6th over, bowled by Chelson Stowe. The over was going well until the final delivery was muscled over long on for a maximum, the score moving to 88/0. Andrew Thomas, hero with the ball in Striker’s last match, bowled well up until the final delivery where he flighted one and was launched over mid wicket for six by Nedd. Stowe delivered a good 8th over, only conceding 8 runs. The Divers made a massive finish and got 19 runs from the last over, which also saw Theophile bringing up his half century off 27 deliveries. Theophile & Nedd both remained unbeaten, amassing the highest partnership of the season, a massive 134 runs. Theophile finished on 53 from 28 deliveries hitting 2 fours and 5 sixes while Nedd finished on 69 from 33 deliveries, hitting 3 fours and 6 sixes.
Rickford Walker & Gidron Pope opened the innings, a bizarre move as both are out of form and in such a big match chase. The first two overs were pretty boring, score being 6/1 as Walker was bowled by Abraham. Roland Cato marched in and brought momentum as he slogged Hooper in the 3rd over for 6. Pope also cashed in with a pull over mid wicket for six, taking 15 runs from the over. Abraham was back for the 4th over and Cato continued to flourish, hitting the first delivery for four down the ground then smashed a monstrous hit off the 3rd delivery over the bowlers head. Cato finished the over with a helped pull over fine leg for six taking the score to 39/0 after the powerplay.
Roland Cato continued the destruction and brought up his half century in 17 deliveries, 28 runs coming off the 7th over, leaving 41 runs required from 3 overs. Razine Browne delivered a very good 8th over, only conceding 6 runs and getting the wicket of Pope & Cato, the pair putting on 91 runs in 35 deliveries. Braxie Browne bowled the 9th over and conceded 22 runs, 13 runs required to win for victory. Razine Browne was back and fulfilled the reputation he has as a death bowler and only conceding 9 runs, the Divers winning by 3 runs and securing the 5th place position.
