Match Report: Qualifier 1 – Botanical Garden Rangers vs Salt Pond Breakers
Rangers won the toss and choose to bat.
Rangers flew out the blocks, being 26/0 after 2 overs, the 2nd over conceding 19 runs. Delorn Johnson struck gold in the 3rd over as he had Shallow caught attempting to play his favourite cut shot and had Cottoy dismissed caught behind off a lifter after being struck for 4 the previous delivery. Javid Harry & Jeremy Layne bagged 3 wickets combined in the 4th and 5th over, Rangers now struggling at 46/5. Ambris had Atticus Browne removed in the 6th over, Rangers continuing to sink further. Winston Samuel came in at #8 and top scored with 25 from 13 deliveries, hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes to lift the Rangers to a respectable 91 – they were all out with 2 balls to spare when Bibby was run out in a mix up.
Knowing that Ambris was the danger man, Rangers tried something different to him, the seamers bowling from around the wicket. Lewis was run out attempting a second and Breakers lost a wicket in the first over, another failed opening stand. Ricavo Williams entry to the crease saw a change in momentum as he was in a belligerent mood, hammering 20 runs from the 3rd over. When the powerplay was finished, Breakers were 48/1. Ambris perished in the 5th over, caught at covers off the bowling of Dember. The 6th-8th over only conceded 13 runs and it seemed as if there was a way back for the Rangers. Dember returned figures of 2/15 and Samuel applying the pressure with 0/9 from his 2 overs. The penultimate over conceded 16 runs and the pressure let off, and Breakers went home with 2 balls to spare. Ricavo Williams top scored with 41 from 18 deliveries, hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes.
