Match Preview: Qualifier 1 – Botanical Garden Rangers vs Salt Pond Breakers

The top two teams of the VPL will lock horns for a fierce qualifier match, where the winner advances to the final. The loser, they will get another shot at redemption as they will take on the winner of this afternoon’s encounter between Dark View Explorers and La Soufriere Hikers.

In The Spotlight

The Breakers have finished their group stages in fine fashion, taking back control and finishing on top of the table. Sunil Ambris is ahead of the pack, in form and runs scoring. He has 86 runs more than the next person in line and his presence at the top sets the tone for the Breakers. Breakers have tried different opening partnerships with Ambris, and they have all failed. They have to be weary of what happens in the event Ambris doesn’t score. Luckily, Ricavo Williams and Ryan John has done enough in this tournament for them not be underestimated and late surges from Delorn Johnson have happened.

For Rangers, they didn’t finish the group stage as they would have liked, losing their final two matches. Their batting is a threat as they have a lot of quality and experience players batting at the top in Emmanuel Stewart, Hyron Shallow and Keron Cottoy. Captain Dember has been providing lusty blows to the back end and Donwell Hector has added useful runs in the middle. The Rangers bowling, while not being the best, is quite versatile and have served them very well. They have the variety and have a battery of bowlers to call upon depending on the situation.

Qualifier one is set to be a cracking contest, and it’s anyone guess as who will come out the winner.
