Match Report: 21st Match – Fort Charlotte Strikers vs Dark View Explorers
Explorers won the toss and choose to bowl first, recognising their team strength is their batting.
Strikers didn’t get off to a good start, as Sealroy Williams, one of their form batsman was run out for a duck – 2/1 after one over. Rickford Walker, promoted back up the order to open, was in a no nonsense mood as he pumped Hooper for 2 fours and a six to push the score. He along with Cato pushed the powerplay score to 35/1. Walker was dismissed by Sealron’s first delivery of the 5th over, but Cato now finding some form hit a boundary the smoked 2 sixes off the leg spinner. Cato continued the onslaught and scored his half century from 21 deliveries, hitting 3 fours and 5 sixes. The Strikers got two quick sixes from Kirton Lavia to help power them to 109/4, a very good score.
Ray Jordan started the bowling for Strikers with a rarity, a maiden to Miles Bascombe of all batsmen. Fredericks bowled the 2nd over that went for 11 runs, Explorers still within the chase. Small, after suffering to the hands of Bascombe in their previous meeting, won the battle with only one delivery as he had Bascombe bowled from a beautiful off spinner that was slower and turned slightly. Fredericks had Hooper lbw in the next over and the Explorers were struggling at 15/2 after 4 overs. Captain James perished in the 5th over and it was all but over from there and the Strikers put on the squeeze with the spinners. Part time off spinner Andrew Thomas returned figures of 3/15 from his two overs. The Explorers could only muster 69, their lowest score for the tournament. The Strikers winning by 40 runs – makes you really wonder where was this Strikers team all along.
