Match Report: 14th Match – Grenadines Divers vs Botanical Garden Rangers

November 13, 2020

Botanical Garden Rangers won the toss and choose to bat.

Asif Hooper bowled the first over and Hyron Shallow swung big over long on off the first delivery. The penultimate ball off the over was driven over mid on for four then followed with another drive, this time over the long on boundary for six – 18/0.

There was a comedy in the next over where Shallow cut to backward point and both batsmen ended up at the striker’s crease. It took a while before it was decided that Stewart was the man to go. The innings took  stall after and the Divers put the squeeze on the Rangers, only conceding 28 runs from the next four overs.

Kenneth Dember made a late assault, particularly on Razine Browne, as the 9th over conceded 24 runs. The final over went for 14 runs, bowled by Obed McCoy and Rangers found themselves back in the match with a decent score of 96.

Divers started the chase in electrifying fashion, Shem Browne, taking 20 runs from Donald Delpesche over. Asif Hooper smashed a quick ten runs, before being dismissed by Zimron Providence. Kenneth Dember removed Tyrone Theophile in the 3rd over but Shem Browne continued with the assault and Divers were running away freely at 41/2 after 3 overs.

Things all but went downhill suddenly as wickets continued to fall regularly and the required run rate started to regrow. Divers made a mess and was bowled out in only 9 overs for 75 – this after needing 56 from 42 deliveries.

Rangers won by 21 runs and continued their dominance on this edition of the VPL.

Botanical Garden Rangers 96/6 (10 overs)
Grenadines Divers 75 all out (9 overs)
