Match Report: 11th Match – Botanical Gardens Rangers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers
Botanical Garden Rangers won the toss and choose to bat.
Ray Jordan bowled a good first over, only conceding 2 runs. Rasheed Fredericks, normally one of the most economical bowlers in the VPL, got a pounding, being smashed off a length over long off for six by Stewart. He was then cut for back to back fours by the veteran Hyron Shallow, the over conceding 17 runs.
Chelson Stowe bowled the 3rd over and immediately got the wicket of Emmanuel Stewart caught brilliantly at covers by a jumping Roland Cato with a one hand plucker. The back half of the over was spoiled as Shallow took two boundaries and then drove over long on for six to finish the over. Shallow finished off the powerplay in style, hitting three consecutive fours off Nigel Small, two cut shot and one pull shot, his trademark shots. Rangers finished the powerplay on 47/1.
Donwell Hector joined the party and took two fours off Kirton Lavia’s over, taking the score to 61/1 after 5 overs. Strikers did well to peg back the game, only conceding 45 runs in the back half of the match, restricting the Rangers to 106/8. Hyron Shallow was the standout batsman, scoring 37 from 18 deliveries, hitting 7 fours and 1 six.
Rain came during the break and the game was abandoned, Strikers walking away with another point in part to their guardian angel of the tournament, rain!
