Match Report: 9th Match – Grenadines Divers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers
Fort Charlotte Strikers won the toss and chose to bat.
Strikers changed their batting lineup to get some much needed impetus at the top, where they have struggled often. It paid off as Alex Samuels struck down the ground for four and followed with a sweep to the square boundary. They lost Cato with the score on 12/1 but Samuels continued to take the attack to the bowlers and swung Hooper through mid wicket for four then blasted him for a straight six. He smashed the final delivery of the powerplay over mid wicket for six, taking the Strikers to 35/1 at the end of 4 overs, possibly, their best ever powerplay.
Things suddenly went downhill as they lost three wickets in the 5th over to Tyrone Theophile. He combined with Geron Whyliee to take six wickets for 24 runs from overs 5-8.
Razine Browne bowled the penultimate over and Stowe took a much needed six over mid wicket but the over didn’t have any more damage, Strikers 68/7 after 9 overs. Obed McCoy bowled the last over and only conceded 3 runs, the Strikers only getting 71/9, a well below par score.
Asif Hooper & Shem Browne opened the bowling facing to Rasheed Fredericks. Hooper sent Fredericks flying over mid wicket for six then off the final delivery, went over mid off for four, an excellent first over chasing down a small target.
Asif Hooper basically made light work of the chase, scoring his half century in 22 balls, remaining unbeaten on 61 from 27 balls. He took 23 runs from the 3rd over bowled by Lavia, dismissing any hopes the Strikers had of pulling off the impossible. Divers finished the powerplay on 54 and wiped off their target in only 6.2 overs, giving their net run rate a wonderful boost.
Fort Charlotte Strikers 71/9 (10 overs)
Grenadines Divers 75/0 (6.2 overs)
