Botanical Garden Rangers won the toss and choose to bat.
Emmanuel Stewart and Hyron Shallow opened by the innings. Deron Greaves had the dangerous Stewart dismissed for duck, his first dismissal of the tournament. Keron Cottoy went in at #3 and the Rangers turned on the heat. Hyron Shallow drove Shamon Hooper over wide long off for four. Keron Cottoy took a piece out of Hooper as well, pulling for four then flat batting over long off for six then slog sweeping over mid wicket for another maximum – the over conceding 22 runs. turned on the heat.
Deron Greaves was back for the 3rd over and Cottoy continued going for runs, playing a reverse pull shot through the offside for four. Hyron Shallow also got involved and smashed the 3rd delivery for six over long on. Hyron Shallow was then dismissed obstructing the field, while he was going back for a 2nd run and changing his running path while the ball struck him.
Donwell Hector then joined Cottoy at the crease. Jade Matthews bowled the final powerplay over and Cottoy laid into him. He smashed three sixes and one four in the over. During the 5th over, he brought up the fastest ever half century in VPL, off 13 deliveries. He was then dismissed by Shaquille Browne in the 6th over for 52 from 17 deliveries, hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes. After Cottoy was dismissed with the score on 76, Rangers struggled to get 33 runs from the next 22 deliveries. Dean Browne, who hasn’t had a good time with the ball this tournament, redeemed the faith shown in him and the final over only conceded two runs, giving him match figures of 1/12 from his 2 overs. Rangers finishing on 111/5, well short of what they were on course for.
Miles Bascombe and Deron Greaves opened the innings, facing up to Kimali Williams. Miles Bascombe charged the first legal delivery and struck it straight for six. Deron Greaves cashed in on a loose short delivery down the leg side to help it to the fine leg boundary for four, score 15/0 after 1. Donald Delpesche bowling his bag of tricks kept the batsmen at bay until the final delivery where he bowled a loose delivery to Greaves who pulled it for four.
Bascombe flicked over the top for four off the first delivery of the 3rd over then pulled mercifully for six two deliveries later, Explorers going along nicely to 38/0 after 3 overs. Kenneth Dember bowled the final over of the powerplay and Bascombe continued to pick up boundaries and taking the score to 49/0. Zimron Providence bowled the 5th over and Bascombe charged to hit a straight six – score 59/0, 53 runs required from 30 deliveries.
Captain Dember brought himself back and bowled a good over conceding seven, the equation 46 runs from 24 balls. Zimron Providence bowled the 7th over and had Bascombe out for 47 off 26 deliveries, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes. Shamon Hooper came in, smashed a six first delivery then held out on the mid wicket boundary, the over costing 13 runs but getting two big wickets – 33 required from 18 deliveries.
Lindon James was dismissed by Delpesche on the first delivery of the 8th over. Dean Browne first delivery faced was flicked over square leg for six off Delpesche. The next delivery was a shorter slower delivery that was read well and smashed over long on for six. The next delivery saw the bails flying as Delpesche bounced back well. Dromo Toney got a golden duck, yorked by Delpesche – 20 required from 12 deliveries.
Deron Greaves perished on the first delivery of the penultimate over and Explorers could only manage to get 4 runs from the over. With 16 required from the final over, the 2nd ball was hit for six over mid wicket by Sealron Williams. A dot ball followed, then a single to deep cover then a dot and with seven needed off the final delivery, the bowler went full and the ball tailed in and missed everything and everyone and went for four byes, the Rangers winning by two runs.
