Match Report: 5th Match – Fort Charlotte Strikers vs Salt Pond Breakers
Salt Pond Breakers won the toss and choose to bat, on what looked like a wonderful batting wicket.
Ray Jordan, as has become customary, gave a good start, only conceding one boundary and the over conceding seven runs in total. Rasheed Fredericks bowled the 2nd over and Ambris got a boundary with a lovely cut shot, taking the score to 15-0. Stowe bowled the third over and almost had Ambris off the first delivery skying to covers but the fielder was unable to get a hand on ball. The next three deliveries were put away for boundaries, a pull shot through mid wicket followed by a cut and dab down third man. The final delivery of the over was pulled over square for four, taking 20 runs off the over, the missed opportunity proving very costly. Nigel Small was up to bowl the final powerplay over and Ambris continued to cash in hitting a straight four and six – the over conceding 19 and the Breakers motoring along nicely to 54/0.
Rasheed Fredericks bowled the 6th over and had Leshawn Lewis caught at long on. Sunil Ambris brought up his half century the next delivery, taking only 24 deliveries. It was an excellent over by Fredericks, only costing 3 runs and keeping the score to 69/1. Chelson Stowe was back for the 7th over and got the dangerous Ryan John caught at deep point off the 3rd delivery of the over. It was a good over until the last ball that was bowled short and flat bat over covers for four.
Nigel Small was back for the 8th over, the field set to bowl outside off stump with two fielder sweeping the point/cover region. The bowler didn’t stick to the plan as he bowled straighter and was heaved over the leg side boundary by Ricavo Williams twice then flicked down fine leg for four, taking the score to 95/1.
Ray Jordan bowled the penultimate over and was flicked for four by Ambris. Few deliveries later, he had Ambris caught at mid off for 61 off 31 deliveries, hitting 9 fours and 1 six. The danger wasn’t averted as Delorn Johnson smashed a flat bat over long off for six then followed with a drive to the empty cover boundary for four. Kirton Lavia bowled the final over and had Williams caught at deep mid wicket, flicking straight into the fielder arms who didn’t have to move an inch. Urnel Thomas came in and was bowled, putting Lavia on a hat trick, with Seon Sween to face up. The hat trick ball was inside edge down to fine leg for four. Delorn Johnson smashed a six over cover off the 5th delivery and scrambled a leg bye to have Breakers finish the innings on 123/5.
Rain came during the break and delayed the restart but play didn’t stop long enough to have a reduction in overs.
Delorn Johnson took the new ball, to bowl to the pair of Gidron Pope & Rickford Walker. Walker failed to trouble the score as he was caught at short fine leg off a top edge pull. Pope finished the over with a cut shot for four – 5/1 after 1 over. Sunil Ambris bowled the second over and the Strikers seemingly continuing from yesterday, was failing to trouble the score. Pope perished on the fifth delivery, holding out to deep mid wicket playing a pull shot.
Ryan John struck in the 3rd over, having his country man Roland Cato caught behind, the score on 10/3, the Strikers finding themselves in another miserable position. However, a guardian angel showed up for the Strikers in the form of rain and causing the game to be abandoned as a no-result, as three overs is needed to constitute a match.
