Match Report: 3rd Place – Botanical Gardens Rangers vs Grenadines Divers
Botanical Gardens Rangers won the toss and choose to bat. Kenneth Dember partnered Hyron Shallow at the top. Hooper had immediate success with the ball, having Dember caught by Shem Browne running across from mid on. Shamick Roberts bowled the 2nd over to Shallow and it was expensive. He was cut twice and driven over the top for boundaries. Shallow continued to be merciless, pulling anything short of a length and cutting anything slightly wide – the Rangers finishing the powerplay on 45/1.
Obed McCoy and Braxie Browne unleashed the pace and the Rangers batting was kept at bay. Overs 5 to 7 only conceded 19 runs, taking Rangers to 64/2. It was enough of a launch pad for the Rangers to now go in destructive mode to finish with a good score. Razine Browne bowled the 8th over and both Williams and Shallow hammered him, taking 20 off the over. The Rangers ended up powering their way to 101/2. Hyron Shallow finished unbeaten on 66 from 36 deliveries, hitting 6 fours and 5 sixes.
Asif Hooper started the chase in fine fashion, pulling magnificently for 6 and hitting a beautiful on drive for 4. He swung after Kenneth Dember in the 2nd over and had some luck with a top edge that raced away for 4 down to third man. He then swung a six over mid wicket to keep the score ticking at 24/0 after 2. Nigel Small came for the 3rd over and was immediately swatted through mid wicket for a boundary by Hooper. Hooper wasn’t done there, as he drove sweetly over the offside for 6 then pumped another one down to long on for 4 – Divers now on 40/0. Ray Charles, back into the team, was up to bowl the 5th of the powerplay – he struck and got Romano Pierre caught at long on. Shem Browne came in and struck the first delivery for 6 then was out caught at long on off the next delivery – a familiar story for the Divers, being in control and then losing their way quickly. The score on 51/2 from 5 overs, another 51 runs to get from 30 deliveries. Kevin Abraham bowled the 6th over and got the dangerous Alex Samuels caught at long on, the score at 60/3 after 6 overs – 41 to win from 24 deliveries.
Asif Hooper now went in ultra destructive mode and beat off the target with 6 balls to spare. Asif Hooper finished with 67 from 33 balls, hitting 4 fours and 6 sixes. Ray Charles was the pick of the bowlers taking 2-22.
