Match Report: Match 20 – Grenadines Divers vs Salt Pond Breakers

Salt Pond Breakers won the toss and choose to bat. Captain, Asif Hooper delivered a good over to Kadir Nedd, teasing him and eventually had him failing for the bait but he was put down at long on – taking the score to 4/0. Richie Richards came on to bowl the 2nd over and was immediately greeted with a pull to fine leg by Ambris. Ambris done drove for 4 then swung a six over long on to take the score to 21/0. The reliable Asif Hooper came back for the 3rd over and it was going to be an intriguing battle against Ambris. Hooper bowled well and they got the prized wicket of Ambris via the run out route, taking on the powerful accurate arm of Obed McCoy. Urnel Thomas joined Nedd and they carried the Breakers to 44/1 at the end of the powerplay, giving the Breakers yet another impressive start.

Obed McCoy and Razine Browne combined beautifully to only concede 12 overs from the next two overs, taking the score to 56/2 – Razine Browne had Nedd run out off his own bowling with Nedd looking to take a suicidal single and perished for it. Braxie Browne delivered the 7th over and Urnel Thomas hit a massive six on the hands, the over conceded 10 and the score on 66/2 from 7. Razine Browne bowled the 8th over and continued his fine death overs bowling to take a wicket and only concede 8 runs. Obed McCoy delivered the penultimate over and pulled out his bag of tricks, bowling those un-pickable slower deliveries that batsmen worldwide struggles with. He got a wicket and only conceded 7. The final was bowled by Braxie Browne – Thomas swung hard after the first delivery and got a top edge for 6. Braxie Browne then pulled out his slower balls to have the batsmen outfoxed but they still managed to scramble some singles – Salt Pond Breakers finishing on 92/4. Urnel Thomas top scored with 32 from 21 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Divers got their chase off to a good start, taking the score to 18/0 from 2 overs. The first ball of the 3rd over was pulled for 6 by Hooper, taking 10 from the over. Javid Harry was back for the 4th over and struck, removing the dangerous Asif Hooper. Wayne Harper crunched a 4 later in the over to take the score to 35/1 at the end of the powerplay – 58 runs required from 36 deliveries.

The run rate started to build as the 5th and 6th over only had 6 and 9 runs respectively, the total on 50/1 from 6 overs – 43 required from 24 deliveries. The equation went down to 27 from 12 balls, Shem Browne & Romano Pierre at the crease to face Delorn Johnson in the 9th over. Shem Browne hammered Johnson for a 6 but was caught attempting a pull shot. Two deliveries later, Richards was caught cutting at deep cover point – 16 runs required from the final over, to be bowled by Wesrick Strough. Strough, with his slingy action, kept aiming full and it paid off, the over only conceding 10 runs – Salt Pond Breakers winning by 5 runs.
