Match Report: 18th Match – Salt Pond Breakers vs La Soufriere Hikers
Salt Pond Breakers won the toss and choose to bat first. Sunil Ambris was in dismissive form as he went through the leg side off the first delivery for 4. He immediately straight drove for 6 then creamed one through cover then another straight drive. To add salt to the wounds, what was suppose to be the final delivery went for 5 wides. The final delivery then went for another 4, flicked with plenty wrist through mid wicket for 4, the over conceding 27 runs, the largest of the tournament. Othneil Lewis, one of the best powerplay bowlers continued doing a good job at it and only conceded 6 runs, the score 33/0 from 2 overs. The 3rd over went for 12, bowled by Dillon Douglas, with Kadir Nedd joining the party. The 4th over bowled by Othneil Lewis was another good one as he got the prized wicket of Sunil Ambris who made 32 from 14 balls, hitting 5 fours and 1 six – the score at the end of the powerplay being 52-1.
Kadir Nedd, proving to be the pocket rocket of the tournament launched a 6 off Douglas to keep the rate going. He then struck Haywood for a 6 off the next over to carry the score to 70/1 from 6 overs. Kimson Dalzell charged with bowling the 7th over, got Urnel Thomas caught at long off By Douglas and only conceded 4 runs. Wesrick Strough was sent on to slog and he connected on a big six but was dismissed immediately by Haywood – score on 89/3 from 8 overs. Kimson Dalzell bowled the 9th over very well only conceding 7 runs. The final over was bowled by Rayan Williams and only 9 runs was conceded – the Hikers will be happy how the last 4 overs went, as they pulled back the scoring rate tremendously. Kadir Nedd top scored with 46 from 31 balls hitting 1 four and 4 sixes.
Delorn Johnson bowled the first over of the Breakers innings and was driven back by Salvan Browne for 4. He was dropped by the wicket keeper on the 2nd delivery. The 4th delivery was slammed down the ground for 6 – the first over costing 12 runs. Javid Harry struck gold in the 2nd over as remove Dillon Douglas, a big blow for the Hikers as injury forced them to have a shorter batting line up. Wesrick Strough was up for the 3rd over but 16 runs resulted from it, Hikers going very strong at 35/1. Ambris, the most economical bowler of the tournament, came on for the final powerplay over but Salvan Browne had other ideas, hitting his first delivery for 4. On the 5th delivery, he was smashed for 6 and then a 4 flayed over mid off to take the score to 47/1.
Javid Harry came back for the 5th over and should have had Salvan Browne but he was dropped at deep mid wicket – at the end of the over, the score 60/1 with Salvan Browne on 44 from 20 balls, threatening to wipe away the total single handedly. Ambris was back for the 7th over and had Tilron Harry bowled going for a mighty heave. Salvan Browne. Salvan brought up his half century off 24 deliveries and steering the Hikers closer to their target. By the time the 8th over was finished, the Hikers only needed 11 runs. The game was finished in the 9th over, with Salvan Browne remaining unbeaten on 68 from 32 balls, hitting 10 fours and 2 sixes.
