
Match Report: 13th Match – La Soufriere Hikers vs Grenadines Divers
Grenadines Divers won the toss and decided to bowl first with the captain Asif Hooper feeling that his bowling attack is the best in the tournament, and that they just need their batting to support them.
Asif Hooper delivered the first over and got two big wickets – Salvan Browne was caught at long on and Dillon Douglas was caught at deep mid wicket. The 2nd over was typical of Hikers, going hell for leather, as Tilron Harry smoked 1 six and flicked 2 fours, taking the score to 20/2. Hooper was back in the 3rd over and remove Harry but Dean Browne had other plans as he smoked two sixes off Hooper taking the score to 37/3. Richie Richards bowled the final powerplay over and had Dean Browne caught at deep mid wicket, taking the score to 44/4. The captain Maloney came to the crease, today deciding on giving the other players a chance to bat.
Cosmus Hackshaw, coming off the back of two ducks for the tournament, showed fluency and kept the run rate going. Hackshaw and Maloney steadily carried the score to 75/4 from 8 overs, creating the launching pad for the final overs. McCoy came to bowl the penultimate over and showed why he is so useful in these limited overs game – his slower balls weren’t picked and his yorkers spot on. Maloney did manage to hit a six to carry the score to 85/4. The final over was delivered by Razine Browne, known to bowl excellent death overs, conceded 13 runs – the Hikers finishing on 98/4.
With the ball, Othneil Lewis didn’t waste time and removed Shem Browne with the 2nd ball of the innings. Alex Samuel came in and played two wonderful whip-sweep for 4. Alex Samuel took on the attack and struck 3 fours and 1 six to steer the divers to 44/1 at the end of the powerplay.

Asif Hooper, realising his team’s propensity for batting collapses, played steadily while Samuels took the attack to the bowlers. Samuels started to maul the bowling attack, taking his team to 78/2 in the 7th over, leaving 21 runs required from 18 deliveries. Kenson Dalzell bowling the 8th over, bowled beautifully, only conceding 5 runs – now 16 runs required from 12 deliveries. Kimson Dalzell charged with bowling the 9th over, bowled beautifully to Samuel, taking the ball away from his strong zone. The over only conceded 4 runs and saw the back of Samuels, being run out for 55 from 30 balls, hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes. With 12 needed from the last over bowled by Kenson Dalzell, the Divers could only get 1 run, making it an excellent comeback by the Hikers to steal victory away from the Divers by 10 runs.
