Match Report: 11th Match – Fort Charlotte Strikers vs La Soufriere Hikers

May 25, 2020

Fort Charlotte Strikers won the toss and chose to bowl. Salvan Browne came out swinging, signalling the team’s intention. He took 2 fours from the first over. The second over from Rasheed Fredericks was expensive, conceding 14 runs. The 3rd over from Chelson Stowe conceded 10 runs, with the Strikers continuing to be very sloppy in the field. The final powerplay over was no improvement, as the Hikers raced on to 47/0.

The captain Cottoy introduced himself in the 5th over and pulled things back beautifully, only conceding 4 runs and taking the big wicket of captain Desron Maloney who made 13 from 9 balls, striking 2 fours. The next over bowled by Kirton Lavia, was back to the norm and conceded 15 runs – again, the team being sloppy with extras. Cottoy bowled the 7th over and conceded only 3 runs and was followed up nicely by Sylvan Spencer, who bowled his first over of the tournament. He got the prized wicket of Salvan Browne for 44 from 28 balls, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. Kirton bowled the penultimate over and conceded only 4 runs and taking a wicket to continue to peg back the Hikers innings.

Ray Jordan charged with bowling the last over started spot on, fast yorker on leg stump to the dangerous Douglas. He followed up with another fast yorker during the 4th delivery to remove Douglas. The final 2 deliveries were dot balls and the Hikers were kept to 84/5 from their 10 overs. The Strikers recovered beautifully to only concede 18 runs from their final 4 overs.

The Strikers made a change to their opening pair, with the Skipper joining Gidron Pope at the top. It didn’t change their fortunes as Cottoy went in the first over caught by the wicket keeper off Othneil Lewis. During the 3rd over, Othneil Lewis trapped the dangerous Gidron Pope lbw to further dent the Strikers. Kirton Lavia and Renrick Williams together at the crease, started to string together a few boundaries to pick 22 runs from the 4th and 5th over combined.

Rayan Williams came on for the 6th over and it went for 17 runs, although it brought a wicket via the run out route, as Renrick Williams departed for 22 from 14 balls, hitting 1 four and 2 sixes. The Strikers still in the game with the score on 50/4 with 35 runs remaining from the final 4 overs.

Wickets started to tumble regularly to leave the Strikers wanting 17 runs from the final over. Dean Browne was up to bowl the final over, quite familiar with this role now. He delivered 3 consecutive dot balls then effected a run out on the 4th delivery, basically ending the Strikers hope for their first win.
