Match Report: 10th Match – Salt Pond Breakers vs Botanical Gardens Rangers
Salt Pond Breakers won the toss and chose to bat – the captain Sunil Ambris saying the track looks a very good batting surface. Ambris started the innings with a trademark flick to long leg for 4 of his opposing number, Kesrick Williams. He was then dropped on the next delivery, skying an attempted drive on the up. To rub salt into the wounds, the next delivery was pulled to wide long on for 4.
Kenneth Dember was very tidy bowling the 2nd over, only conceding 3 runs. Kadir Nedd, half centurion from the previous match, got going in the third over, playing two trademark cut shots to pick up boundaries – Breakers being 26/0 after 3 overs. Dember came back to bowl the last powerplay over but bowled into Nedd’s strong zone and paid, with Breakers finishing the powerplay on 37/0.
Kevin Abraham came on for the 5th over and remove Nedd, playing a leg side slog and only got a top edge for Ozico Williams at mid wicket to take the catch. Casnel Morris bowled the 6th over and struck immediately, having Donwell Hector caught at long off. Ambris then stroked a sweet boundary wide of long off then advanced down the track to hit a 6 down to long off, taking the score to 53/2 from 6 overs. Romario Bibby, on his T10 debut, was charged with bowling the 7th over and did a good job only conceding 6 runs.
Abraham came back for the 8th over but Ambris cashed in, playing a scope over fine leg and pulled a short one to wide long on to take the score to 68/2. Bibby was greeted in the 9th over with a big heave for 6 by Urnel Thomas over the mid wicket region. It became an over of all sorts as wides and boundaries were the order for the remaining deliveries of the over – the 9th over conceding 19 runs. T20 veteran Kesrick Williams delivered the final over and conceding 17 runs, being ill-disciplined with wides attempting yorkers. Breakers finished the innings on 104/2, a very challenging total on this wicket.
Delorn Johnson started the second innings bowling, doing a good job until the final delivery where Atticus Browne top edged a pull shot for 6. Javid Harry bowled the second over and delivered an excellent one, only conceding one run and having Browne stumped sharply by Seon Sween. Hyron Shallow and Romel Currency took apart Jeremy Layne in the third over, taking 2 fours and 1 six to carry the score to 27/1. Harry came back for the 4th over and delivered two knock out punches to the Rangers, sucker punching the veteran Hyron Shallow into a booming drive and bowling him between the gates. Kevin Abraham was in next and he immediately fell to Harry trying to beat him over long on – Harry completing his quota taking 3-6.
The spell from Harry left Rangers reeling on 31/4 and the innings basically stood at a stand still from there on in. Sunil Ambris came on and combined with Wesrick Strough to get team figures of 3 overs, 1 maiden, 4 runs and 2 wickets – Strough delivering the first maiden of the tournament. Botanical Garden Rangers innings finished on 55/7 off their 10 overs, losing by 49 runs. The tournament’s leading wicket taker, Wesrick Strough, carried his tally to 8, as he bagged two wickets, continuing his death bowling specialty.
