Match Report: 9th Match – Salt Pond Breakers vs La Soufriere Hikers
La Soufriere Hikers won the toss and decided to field first. Salt Pond Breakers got off to an excellent start, taking 15 runs from the first over, the highlight being an Ambris on drive for 6. The 2nd over was even better for the Breakers, taking 18 from the over. Ambris, already on 33 from 12 deliveries, was dropped twice in the 3rd over off the bowling of Kimson Dalzell – both pull shots to mid wicket and short fine leg. Breakers finished the powerplay on 48 without losing a wicket. Kadir Nedd joined the party and launched a six and four in the 5th over, helping the score along to 61 without loss.
The first ball of the 6th over by Kimson Dalzell was greeted with an imperious pull shot from Ambris. Nedd followed up with a cut shot, one bounce to the boundary – the 6th over costing 17 runs and Breakers being 78/0 from 6 overs, looking to score the biggest total of the tournament. Ambris was dropped again in the 7th over, with luck surely on his side – the over ended up costing 17 runs. The runs continued to bleed heavily with both Ambris and Nedd now in full destructive mode. They finished with a mammoth 132 without loss in their 10 overs – this also being the highest score of the tournament. Ambris unbeaten on 75 from 40 deliveries hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes. Kadir Nedd brought up his half century on the final delivery with an imperious off drive for six. His 50 came from 22 balls, hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Hikers with their power hitting line up started in full flow, with Salvan Browne taking a six and four off the first two deliveries from Delorn Johnson. Johnson bounced back well and bowled Browne on the 4th delivery and had a miss catch opportunity off the next delivery, dropping the dangerous Dillon Douglas. Hikers after 2 overs were on 18/2, well below the asking rate. Dillon Douglas looked to up the intent, hitting 2 sixes off Layne’s over – which also saw Douglas being dropped at mid wicket. 15 runs was taken from the 3rd over and the score being on 33/2. Javid Harry was given the job to bowl the final over of the powerplay and he did a terrific job at it, only conceding 7 runs with Breakers finishing the powerplay on 40/2 – well below the asking rate.
The Hikers were starting to tire, and could only get 16 runs from the following 2 overs, taking the score to 56/2 from 6 overs. Dillon Douglas picked up the pace but it still wasn’t enough as they finished the innings on 107/4, losing by 25 runs. Dillon Douglas was dismissed in the final over, scoring 45 from 28 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. Wesrick Strough was the most successful bowler, taking 2-10 from his only over, the final over of the match.
