Match Report: 8th Match – Grenadines Divers vs Fort Charlotte Strikers

May 24, 2020

Match 2 of the third round saw the crucial match up between the Divers and Strikers. Whoever loss, would remain bottom of the table. Strikers won the toss and decided to field. Ray Jordan delivered an excellent first over, drawing an edge from Asif Hooper that was dropped by Walters behind the stumps. The Strikers then got sloppy, bowling wides and the keeper being untidy. The flood gates opened and it was runs galore from there on in. Asif Hooper and Alex Samuels tore the attack apart, and drove their side to the highest score of the tournament, a mammoth 114/3 from their 10 overs. Asif Hooper remained unbeaten on 59 from 36 balls, hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes. Alex Samuel 27 from 15 balls contained 1 four and 3 sixes.

Fort Charlotte Strikers changed the opening pair, but they still failed to get the start that they wanted, only getting 31 runs from the powerplay. Gidron Pope started to show form, and unleash the six hitting power that he is famous for. The penultimate over the game, 48 was required. Pope launched into McCoy and took 3 sixes but eventually fell to the last delivery of the over, leaving 26 from the last over. Pope’s score of 59 equalled the tournament’s highest individual score – it came from 30 deliveries, laced with 8 sixes! Razine Browne bowled the final over, bowling full, making it next to impossible launch sixes at will to finish the game – Razine finishing with impressive figures of 3-7 from 2 overs.

Fort Charlotte Strikers will be left dejected while the Divers felt relieved to get their first win of the tournament.
